Ms Bryony Duus

Ms Bryony Duus (OLY) attended Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School from 1990 – 1994. During this time she represented the school in cross country, athletics, hockey, basketball, cricket and was a valued member of the school concert band. In Year 12 Ms Duus was selected as School Prefect, White House Captain, Basketball and Cricket Captain.
In her senior year, Ms Duus was selected into the senior Australian Women’s Football training squad and made her official debut for the Matildas at 18 years-of-age. She remained a member of the team until 2004.
Ms Duus held women’s football scholarships with the Queensland Academy of Sport from 1992 – 2004, and with the Australia Institute of Sport from 1998 – 2004. In 1998 Ms Duus suffered a serious knee injury and was told she would never play again. Determined to achieve her dream of playing in the Olympic Games, Ms Duus worked to rehabilitate from her injury and in September of 2000, competed at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. She was awarded an Australian Sports Medal and was presented with the keys to the city of Ipswich.
Ms Duus joined the Queensland Sting National League team, winning two National titles in 2000/01 and 2002/03 and was named runner-up of the Julie Dolan Medal for Australian Female Player of the Year in 2000/01. In 2003 Ms Duus was selected to compete at the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. A member of the 2004 Athens Olympic Squad, Ms Duus missed selection due to injury. Ms Duus achieved 47 A Internationals Caps for the Matildas and travelled throughout the world, competing against other countries, including China, Japan, North Korea, USA, Canada, Norway, Sweeden, Finland, Estonia, England and Scotland.
Since retiring, Ms Duus has worked predominately in high performance sport administration including positions at the Australian Institute of Sport, European Training Centre in Northern Italy, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Organising Corporation and Swimming Australia.
