Mrs Elizabeth Schick

Mrs Elizabeth (Libby) Schick (formerly Evans) attended Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School from 1964-1968 following which she undertook her tertiary studies at the University of Queensland.
In 1973, Mrs Schick was recruited to the former Department of Trade and Industry in Canberra where she worked on a broad range of issues relating to trade policy and Australia’s bilateral and multilateral trade relations. In 1978, Mrs Schick accompanied her husband on a posting to Bangkok, Thailand, where she lectured for three years at the University of Chulalongkorn.
Following the amalgamation of the former Departments of Trade and Foreign Affairs in 1987, Mrs Schick held a wide range of senior positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade both in Canberra and overseas until her retirement in August 2013. These have included serving as Consul-General of Australia in Chicago, USA (2008-2011); Ambassador in Satiago de Chile (with non-resident accreditation to Pery, Bolivia and Ecuador 2001-2005) and as Deputy Head of Mission in Vienna where she was Australia’s Resident Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (1990-1994).
Mrs Schick’s career in Canberra also focussed on Australia’s bilateral relations with the USA, Canada and Latin America; the automotive and agricultural sectors; international organisations including the United Nations and Australia’ interest in North Asia and the Asia/Pacific.
