Dr Jenny McMahon graduated from Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School in 1991. Dr McMahon has excelled in both sporting and academic arenas.
In the sporting arena, Dr McMahon achieved Commonwealth Games Gold and Silver medals (1990) in swimming, was five times Australian swimming representative, and had a top 15 world ranking for five consecutive years. She was also a triple World Surf lifesaving champion (2000) and an Ironman finisher (2014).
In the academic arena, Dr McMahon graduated with a Bachelor of Education with first class honours from James Cook University. She was the only student to achieve first class honours at a James Cook University in her graduating year. During her undergraduate degree, she achieved recognition on the Dean’s List for academic achievement. In 2008, she won a highly sought after academic scholarship to complete her Doctorate at the University of Tasmania as a Lecturer in Education. Dr McMahon was awarded the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Award in 2013 for outstanding contribution to University teaching and learning. In 2014, she was awarded a Faculty Research Award for outstanding research output. Her research focusses on the support of athletes and coach education. Dr McMahon has worked nationally and internationally with universities and sporting organisations to ensure better outcomes and support for athletes at all levels of competition.
