Miss Philippa (Pip) Russell attended Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School from 1999 to 20003. After graduating, Miss Russell studied Business Communications and Social Science at UQ Ipswich, followed by Mass Communications at QUT, however gained a role hosting one of Network Tens’ national television shows before completing her degree.
For 3 years, Miss Russell hosted Toasted TV, before moving to present for another 5 years on Totally Wild. During this time, she gained extensive production skills working on national and international shoots and using her public profile to champion many charitable organisations sch as the Children’s Hospital Foundation, Care Australia, the PA Research Foundation and the Cerebral Palsy League.
Miss Russell’s deep passion for supporting meaningful causes, has also seen her raise over $20,000 for cancer research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, present a documentary on Australian Aid in Cambodia, volunteer in remote villages in Africa, as well as supporting local organisations.
In 2014, Miss Russell left her job at Network Ten to bring Juiced TV to life. This was an idea that was in the making fo over 3 years, to bring together her experience and her passion for making a difference.
Juiced TV, the television show made by the children in hospital, for the children in hospital, began in January 2015, two months after the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital opened in South Brisbane. The weekly 25 minute episodes are broadcast on the bedside patient entertainment systems within the hospital, and also across the Juiced TV YouTube channel and website, allowing patients and their siblings to watch the show from outside the hospital and to share memories with family and friends.
Miss Russell’s dream is to connect all patients across Australia with Juiced TV. She is currently working to roll out the program to regional hospitals throughout Queensland with the Juiced TV mobile application, as part of her longer term nation-wide strategy.
Miss Russell was voted Queensland’s Local Hero in the 2018 Australian of the Year Awards.
